Cost optimization without quality loss
01 / THE IDEA

The best savings protect performance and customer trust over time.

02 / EXPLAINER

Savings are not the lowest price per kilogram

A cheaper input may require a higher dose, longer rinsing or more rework. Evaluate cost per acceptable, functional product unit, including water, energy, packaging, transport and waste. Normalize surfactant cost for actual active matter; nominal weight alone can mislead.

03 / EXPLAINER

Test changes and avoid shifting problems

Compare a revised formula with a reference for performance, stability and pack compatibility. A sample may appear satisfactory at manufacture but change texture later. Savings may also come from accurate filling, reduced transfer losses, less downtime or better pack sizing. Cost decisions should protect long-term performance and customer confidence.

ILLUSTRATIVE CASE STUDY

How would this be tested?

Suppose an alternative supplier offers a cheaper ingredient. Normalize for active content, then compare performance, stability and filling at the final intended dose. Include scrap, downtime and potential complaints in the calculation. Better filling accuracy or reduced transfer losses may save more than replacing the main surfactant. Report cost per specification-conforming unit with technical risks and results, not an isolated percentage discount on raw-material price.

Practical evaluation checklist

01

Measure cost per acceptable product unit.

02

Test alternatives for performance and stability.

03

Include waste, downtime and packaging.
